Victorian students deserve an education system that focuses on knowledge, skills, and results. Despite record spending, too many young people leave school without strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, and science. Teachers are overloaded with competing demands, the curriculum is overcrowded, and academic results have suffered.

One Nation will restore the core purpose of schooling: teaching children the knowledge and skills they need, maintaining high expectations, and giving parents a genuine say in their child’s education.

Curriculum and Teaching

Prioritise literacy, numeracy, science, history, and civics.
Support evidence-based teaching methods, including explicit instruction, systematic phonics, mastery learning, and regular assessment.
Replace the overcrowded Victorian Curriculum with a clear, sequenced, knowledge-rich syllabus that sets out what students must learn, year by year and subject by subject.
Free teachers from excessive administrative and cross-curriculum requirements so they can focus on teaching.
Allow schools greater flexibility to offer local programs that reflect community strengths, such as agriculture, trades, sport, music, technology, or the arts.

Standards and Discipline

Restore high academic expectations. Schools will be judged primarily on how well students learn to read, write, think clearly and critically, and apply mathematics.
Require every school to have workable behaviour protocols and the authority to use them so classrooms remain orderly and focused on learning.
Recognise and reward achievement, while providing timely support for students who fall behind.

Pathways and Choice

Expand dedicated trade schools that combine practical training with essential literacy and numeracy, and create direct pathways into apprenticeships and employment.
Invest in additional specialist and behaviour support settings so students with significant learning or behavioural needs can receive proper support without disrupting mainstream classrooms.
Make it easier for parents and communities to establish new independent, specialist, and alternative schools that meet clear standards for safety, quality, and governance.
Introduce school vouchers so public funding follows the student, giving parents real choice between government, independent, faith-based, and specialist schools.

Education should equip young Victorians with knowledge, skills, and the ability to think for themselves. One Nation will put that purpose first.
