Power Bills

What we will do:

• Scrap all net-zero targets and subsidies: Net-zero policies have driven up energy costs, restricted supply, and punished reliable generation. One Nation will scrap net-zero targets and the restrictions that flow from them, so energy policy is judged on price, reliability, and what is best for Victorian families and industry, not on ideology.
• Cancel VNI West, WRL, and other multi-billion-dollar large-scale transmission projects driven by the net-zero agenda. These projects drive up network charges on every power bill, lock in higher system costs, damage productive farmland and regional communities, and are unnecessary when Victoria prioritises reliable local generation and existing transmission infrastructure.
• Amend National Electricity Market rules so the price of energy produced from coal is not artificially inflated.
• Provide long term industry security to encourage investment into upgrading coal power infrastructure.
• Domestic priority for Victorian gas: Victorian household and industrial demand will be met first. Genuine surplus can still be exported. We will not run a rigid reservation that damages local producers who mainly supply the domestic market. The principle is simple: Victorians come first.
• Price discipline: The price paid by Victorian users should not be higher than the export price. If gas is cheaper in Tokyo than in Traralgon, the system is broken.
• Keep exploring: Support continued exploration for commercial offshore gas reserves so Victoria maintains long-term supply.
• Choice in new homes: Reverse the ban on gas connections in new homes. Victorians should be free to choose the energy source that works best for them.

Victoria has the resources. What has been missing is a government prepared to put Victorian households and manufacturers first and to end the net-zero policies that have made energy more expensive and less secure.

Environment

Victoria’s natural environment is an asset that must be managed properly for the benefit of local communities, agriculture, tourism, and future generations. Good environmental policy is practical. It prioritises prevention of bushfires, protection of water quality, responsible land management, and continued public access to forests and parks.

What we will do:

Bushfire and land management

• Reintroduce proper fire breaks and back-burning as core bushfire prevention tools.
• Allow controlled firewood collection in appropriate areas.
• Strengthen early warning systems and floodplain management.
• Support practical, on-ground management by the people who live and work in these landscapes.

Energy projects and rehabilitation

• Require full rehabilitation bonds on every energy project so the cost of decommissioning and site restoration falls on the proponent, not the landholder or the taxpayer.
• Protect productive agricultural land, water catchments, and high-risk areas from incompatible industrial energy development.

Water quality and pest species

• Improve water quality monitoring, including testing for PFAS (“forever chemicals”) in domestic water catchments.
• Pursue eradication programs for European carp and redfin that damage native waterways.

Public access

• Defend public access to national parks and state forests.
• Oppose the Great Forest National Park and any proposal that locks out hunters, four-wheel drivers, trail bike riders and horse riders, climbers, and fossickers from state forest.

Victoria’s environment is best protected by practical management, not by locking people out or covering productive land with industrial infrastructure. One Nation will focus on what works on the ground.
