John Barnes is a proud long-term resident of the Essendon and Moonee Valley community, where he has lived for 39 years, raised his family and built the life he now wants to help protect and strengthen.

Married for 33 years, John is a proud father of two sons and a very proud grandfather. His commitment to the community is driven by a desire to create a safe, stable and affordable future for the next generation.

John understands the pressure facing local families as the cost of groceries, electricity, rent, mortgages and fuel continues to rise. He believes government must get back to basics and focus on practical solutions that make everyday life more affordable.

“Hardworking Australians are under pressure, and too many feel they are being left behind.”

John is passionate about youth, and the role sport plays in developing confident, disciplined and respectful young people. He believes every child should have the opportunity to participate, regardless of their family's circumstances. As a passionate Essendon Football Club premiership player, he understands how sport brings people together and values the contribution of local clubs, coaches and volunteers.

Community safety is a priority for John. As crime is rising, he recognises the fear and distress caused by incidents such as firebombings and shootings. He has a zero-tolerance approach for repeat offenders, putting victims first, and investing in prevention and early intervention.

John also believes older Australians deserve respect, dignity and security after a lifetime of contributing to our community.
