Meet Richard Hughes, One Nation’s candidate for ‘South West Coast’, a proud & passionate current serving Detective with Victoria Police. Richard is fighting for a safer Victoria, Small and Medium Business growth and the competent management of the State of Victoria’s finances. Richard is incensed by the abysmal & disgraceful state of South West Victoria’s roads.

Richard, 51, is a father of three, and has been a long resident of South West Victoria for over 20 years and has extensive ties to his electorate.

Richard has been a member of Victoria Police for over 28 years and a Detective at Warrnambool Crime Investigation Unit (C.I.U) for the past 20 years.

Richard was one of three finalists for the Victoria Police’s prestigious ‘Mick Miller Detective of the Year’ award for the year 2012, following his investigation into an Arson and $1 Million insurance fraud committed in Allansford (Warrnambool) in May 2012.

For the two years between 2013 & 2015, Richard ran the Warrnambool Police Divisional Response Unit (D.R.U) which predominately investigated persons trafficking Meth-amphetamine in South West Victoria.

The highlight of Richard’s policing career, in 2008, was seconded to the Northern Territory Police Force and lived & worked in a remote indigenous community five hours drive west of Alice Springs in the middle Western Desert. Richard was part of Taskforce THEMIS which was the policing component of then Howard Government’s intervention into Child Abuse in remote indigenous communities.

Richard is a self-described Conservative Warrior who detests Woke & Identity politics.

Richard is disgusted by the State of Victoria’s finances & current level of debt and the horrifying legacy that leaves for Victoria’s near 7 million population.

Richard believes the only way the state of Victoria can get out of the mire that it is in is via fostering the private sector and policies that would make small & medium business be attracted to & flourish in Victoria.
