Almost Certain Transition Chaos in Victoria as a Warning For States

Victoria is racing headfirst into an energy transition that risks leaving families and businesses to pick up the bill. We keep hearing that Australia must lead the world on emissions, yet the facts tell a different story. Australia produces around 1 to 1.2 percent of global emissions, and Victoria’s share is smaller again. Even if every coal fired power station in Victoria shut tomorrow, it would barely register globally. What would register immediately is higher power prices, weaker energy security and job losses across manufacturing and regional communities.

One Nation believes energy policy must be built on economic reality and common sense, not ideology. Reliable coal fired power has kept lights on, factories running and food on the table for decades. Affordable electricity drives growth, supports small business and protects regional jobs, especially in the Latrobe Valley. Rushing closures without firm baseload replacement is a recipe for chaos. Victoria’s experience should be a warning to every state considering the same path. If we want lower power bills and a stronger economy, we must secure reliable generation and put Australian workers first. Revamp the Valley and restore energy stability before it is too late.
