Firearms & Hunting
One Nation supports the right of Victorians to own and use firearms lawfully and responsibly for sport, hunting, and rural pest and stock management.
Current laws are too complex and costly for legitimate owners, while penalties for criminals who use firearms remain too weak. We will make the system fairer for law-abiding owners and much tougher on those who misuse firearms.
What we will do:
- Streamline the licensing system and move to longer licence periods to reduce unnecessary cost and bureaucracy for responsible owners.
- Allow practical, secure storage options at approved clubs and ranges.
- Remove unnecessary rules that serve no public safety purpose, including excessive restrictions on genuine antique and historical firearms.
- Introduce a genuine firearms amnesty and examine a voluntary buy-back at fair market value to remove unwanted and unregistered firearms from the community.
- Review the firearms categories and genuine-reason requirements with proper input from farmers and shooting organisations, while maintaining strong public safety standards.
- Increase penalties where a firearm is brandished or used in the commission of a crime.
- Support stronger border controls and tougher penalties for illegal firearms trafficking.
- Push for a fairer and more consistent national approach to firearms regulation.
- Protect duck hunting with current bag limits.
- Support deer hunting for both recreational and pest control management.
- Support “Hunters for the Hungry” food relief scheme.
- Support the most humane practices for pest control and feral population management/eradication.
Law-abiding shooters, hunters, and farmers are not the problem. Criminals who use firearms are. One Nation will treat them accordingly.
